Rezoning

Qnsboro Mobilized Too Late

The most active want downzoning. The ones who don't want to turn these beuatiful, big (by NYC standards) into rooming houses renting to transients. I bought in this neighborhood for 1) good schools, 2) quiet & PRETTY neighborhood, 3) close to transportation, 4) walking distance to amenities and 5) near the park. I am not stuck here. I want to be here, NOT THE SUBURBS. Yet in the 12.5 years I have been here, I have seen lawns and flowers demolished, a disregard for the community, and more than one brothel in operation. You don't just buy a house; you buy a community. If you don't want a yard, buy a condo. If you want a multi-family, buy in a neighborhood that is zoned that way. Don't come in after others carefully considered what they wanted and made the investment and you think you are above the law. Too many of the people buying these house have a ''slash and burn'' mentality. They destroy this neighborhood and move on to the next. If you want to drive out the middle class, NYC will become Detroit, by far the scariest and saddest looking city I have ever been to. Stop bowing to the mighty buck.

You've got it right!!!!

Dear Tina,

Thank GOD for people like you and thank GOD that you are part of the vast majority of those of us that care more about our quality of life than money. I always say if you want to make money play the stock market and leave my neighborhood alone. I managed to get my area rezoned from R3-2 to R2 and we are just two blocks North of beautiful Kissena Park. There are a few great homes in my area for sale if you are interested. Tree lined street with great neighbors! Sorry about your rezoning. I tried to help but the good guys in your area didn't come out in force at the City Planning Hearing where it counted the most.
