Call to Action for "RHCA" What the Future Holds.
Great turn out last night! Thanks to
all who attended. RHCA has been suffering from a slow down for the past two
years. This has been for a few reasons but the main reason is the senior
population which founded and supported this community for years is older and
can no longer do what they have done. Thankfully there were some new
residents at the meeting who stepped up. It is time that we plan to survive
and thrive in Our communities as other ethnic groups have done.
Many residents have complaints
against the city, alderman & police, yet more will not attend a meeting,
write a letter, make a phone call or send an email! RHCA for the past 5 years
has had time to observe the behavior of our community. And what we see is the
same people who deliver your newsletters, work to clean up the community, went
door to door to collect dues, went to City Hall about rezoning of schools &
park/remapping of ward and did whatever was needed to make this community
better are the same people who have done this for the past 57 years.
THEY had your back and have done for
ALL of us who live here for years! Now that they can no longer do this who will
have their backs? "If not you...WHO?" In discussing the plight
of the Black Communities in Chicago I think we can all agree that many have
fallen, and are not places you want to live. If you moved here 50 or 30 years
ago it was to have a new home in a nice neighborhood. But many residents in
recent years came from failed black neighborhood and were so happy to find
Roseland Heights a clean safe place to live. Why was it here when other places
failed? Could that be because of the seniors who held this community together?
The next RHCA meeting in Oct. would
be a great opportunity to get the elders together with younger residents in the
spirit of working together and discuss a new system so that our youth will know
that the elders have made it possible for you to have this present, but
it is up to you to develop a plan for your future. With the average age of our
residents being over 70 years of age, we must address the need for producing
the next generation of resident for Roseland Heights. If not YOU ...WHO?
