Directory Assistance
— Provides telephone numbers, address information, office hours, etc. for an agency or service.
Information Request
— Responds to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and provides static information about policies, procedures, City government events, and operations information.

— Creates a new request for service or informs callers of the status of an existing service request.
The 3-1-1 Citizen Service Center provides easy access to all non-emergency City services. For example:
Find out if alternate side of the street parking is in effect Report loud noise, or a blocked driveway
Find your neighborhood library and its operating hours
Find out how to become a Parks Department lifeguard Leave an opinion for the Mayor
Report a pothole or street light that needs to be fixed
Find out about garbage collection
All Quality of Life calls are handled at the 3-1-1 Citizen Service Center
Complaints with their location are identified and are routed to the appropriate commands via 3-1-1 computer terminal (2 per command)
Callers are given a Service Request number to follow up on resolution
When calling in a NYPD Quality of Life complaint*:
Get to the point - clearly state the ‘nature of the complaint’ (party noise, outside noise, blocked driveway w/ no access, etc.)
Give location of the condition (exact address preferred)
Be Descriptive - provide any and all information an officer would find useful when responding
For Example:
Party Noise: color, style, size of house/apartment building, floor number, number of people present, kind of music playing, etc.
Blocked Driveway: make, model, color, license plate, partial or no access, etc.
