We are having a Tree Planting!

Starting at 9:00 a.m.
The Long Beach City Council has approved a grant for the Wrigley Association to plant trees under the Neighborhood Partners Program.
We have been granted 150 trees to be planted in the south area of Wrigley (north of PCH, south of Burnett, east of Daisy, and south of Pine).
This event will benefit the residents and businesses of Wrigley and the city of Long Beach as a whole.
Trees are important for our air quality, keeping our homes cool in the summer, and preserving the value of our properties.
Many local businesses are supporting this event:
Buonos Pizzaria, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Walgreens, Joes Fountain and Plants, Heredias Bridal and Party Supply, Hiller Hardwood Floors, Miller and Pass LLC, Puka Bar, and War House. More will be joining soon!
We Need Your Support too! Please Volunteer to Come Out and Plant Trees. Not all of the work is physically demanding so everyone can help!
You may volunteer by signing up at the Wrigley Association general meetings at: Veteran's Park Social Hall, 101 East 28th Street on the following Monday; October 1st.

Planting trees is one small but very significant way that people (and you) can actually help fight the ravages of global warming as well as pollution from our freeways and port.
Hope to see you where Daisy Avenue meets Hill Street at 9:00 on Saturday, November 3rd! We will provide shovels, food and drink.
Students who volunteer can receive credit for community service hours.
We are planting trees on Daisy between PCH and Burnett, Hill between Daisy and Pine, Eucalyptus between Hill and Burnett, and finally on
Pine between Willow and 21st Street.
All the trees designated for PCH have found good homes! The business owners there are very excited about making a better impression to the
many commuters who pass through that thoroughfare.
The Puka Bar donated space and helped with the fees for the entertainment permit for this event, and we packed the house. Local musicians, Robert Benson, Brophy Dale, and Ken Huntington along with several of their musician friends donated their talents to provide musical entertainment. There was a whole lot of shakin going on and a good time was had by all.
Seventh District council representative, Tonia Reyes Uranga and staff member Tim Patton attended, and Tonia made a generous donation as well. Sixth district council representative, Dee Andrews, made a pledge to meet Council Representative Uranga donation. Heredia Party Supply, next door to the Puka Bar, donated chairs so that we all could sit down and enjoy the band.
This all could not have happened without the outstanding dedication of the Wrigley Tree Committee. I would like to take this opportunity to thank members Mauna Eichner, Lee Fukui, Brenda Martinez, and Richard Pass from the bottom of my heart. The committee is working hard to get all new trees a caring home. I would also like to thank Chris Graeber, the Wrigley Association's Web Master, for getting our information on the website as well as writing the press releases and getting them sent out. The Neighborhood Resource Center has been very supportive and has allowed us to make copies of all of our flyers at their office on Atlantic Ave...thank you.
