Around the Block Club

Minutes of Meeting Held 11/29/12

The meeting was called to order by the President, James Burt, followed by a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The following items were discussed:

1.  Highlights of the recent City Council meeting.  Mr. Burt recommended that ABC members attempt to attend future City Council meetings to increase their awareness of developments in the City and also to have our voices heard.

2.  Mr. Burt opened nominations for Election of Officers and Committee Chairpersons.  The position descriptions for the various positions were distributed for reference.  Based upon a consensus of the ABC members present, following are the results of the election:

President -James Burt

Treasurer- Ayanna Pantallion

Secretary- Yvonne Lindsey

                                    Vice President - Maxine Toler

                                    Asst. Treasurer- Robert Robinson

                                    Asst. Secretary - Willie Lindsey

Social Committee Chairperson - Vanessa Francis

Scholarship Committee Chairperson - Karen Heads

Membership/Resource Committee Chairperson - Katrina Anderson

Sunshine Committee Chairperson - Barbara Jackson

Public Relations Committee Chairperson - Christina Adolphus

3.  Maxine Toler reviewed the notice distributed to residents by Councilman Mike Stevens referencing the Mayor’s Initiative recommending that Council members be restricted to submitting one Initiative per Council meeting and that all Initiatives be reviewed by the City Attorney before inclusion on the Agenda.  A discussion ensued.

4.  A discussion was held regarding the trees replaced along Manchester Blvd. between West Blvd. and Prairie.  It was pointed out that the trees are smaller than what was promised by the Mayor and, because they are deciduous trees, they will be barren throughout the winter months and the fallen leaves will create hazardous driving conditions. The members agreed that a petition should be circulated and submitted to the Mayor and Councilpersons, with a letter written by the Secretary requesting that the trees be replaced with a larger, different variety.  Maxine Toler will send an e-mail to members asking for their participation in the signature drive.

5.  The Treasurer, Ayanna Pantallion, reported that the balance in the treasury is $1,749.43.

6.  Mr. Burt asked whether the membership dues should remain at $20 per year.  The members agreed that the dues should not be increased at this time.  If the Club has a successful dues drive in 2013, we will be in a financial position to re-establish the Scholarship Award Program.

There being no further business, it was moved and seconded that the meeting be adjourned.
