In the past, angle parking required a City Council action to install or remove and the community planning groups played little or no role in the decision. After some grumbling about how badly that system worked, Traffic Engineering reviewed angle parking, coordinated with communities, and asked the Community Planners Committee for its review. The result is a new city policy on angle parking.

In the future, angle parking can be installed or removed by action of the City Manager. The process requires at least 75% of the property owners in the affected block to sign a petition for installation or removal. The petition goes to the community planning group for review and recommendation. The petition and recommendation are then forwarded to the City Manager (Traffic Engineering actually) for technical review and decision.

The new process should simplify angle parking requests and give the Planning Committee needed control over the way angle parking is installed or removed.
