Mr. Hylton is a bass-baritone who is currently completing a full-tuition scholarship offer, from the Ohio University. Lamar is studying for his graduate degree in Vocal Performance Music. Currently, he is studying voice with Mr. Reginald Pindell.
Lamar earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree, from Morgan State University, in December 2003. where he was a member of the school’s Deans’ List. He is a charter member of the Pi Eta chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Inc.
Other accomplishments include first place awards in: the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) District Competition; the National ACT-SO competition; the National Leontyne Price Vocal Arts District Competition; and the James E. Townsend Memorial Competition.
Lamar graduated from Ft. Hayes Arts and Academic High School, Columbus, Ohio.
During his tenure at Morgan State University, Lamar was afforded the opportunity to travel to numerous places throughout the United States and Europe.
He has shared the stage with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, under the leadership of Wynton Marsalis, in an original piece written by Wynton Marsalis entitled, "All Rise" in Prague, Czech Republic. While in Prague, Czech Republic, Lamar also participated in a three-week tour performing the opera "Porgy & Bess.”
Lamar has had the honor of singing with numerous major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Concordia Orchestra, Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Symphony, the Delaware Symphony, and the Czech Philharmonic. He has performed for many master classes, and been coached by Harolyn Blackwell, John Shirley Quirk, and Simon Estes.
Lamar has been a soloist in the Morgan State University choir, where he performed in various events, including bass soloist in Handel's "Messiah.” Further credentials include the cast list of the Baltimore Opera Chorus and membership in the Handel Choir of Baltimore. He also served as the Minister of Music, at the First Church of the Brethren, in Baltimore.
Just recently, Lamar was part of the French premiere of "All Rise" in Paris, France. He has been cast in the production "The WIZ.” In addition, he was an extra, on the set of ‘The Wire’ -- HBO's cable TV series.
Presently, Mr. Hylton is participating in a host of competitions, auditions, and concerts abroad, while completing his graduate coursework.
Lamar is a native of Columbus, Ohio, and a member of the Good Shepherd Baptist Church. He is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Olan (Starlett) Hylton, and brother to one sibling, Maurice.
