Co. Commission Meeting re roads in Alpine Breckenridge

Posted in: Alpine Breckenridge

Robert Arnove, Tim Huber, and I attended the Co. Commission meeting to bring to their attention the problem with our roads.  Tim and Robert both spoke. We are being treated unfairly. We pay the same taxes, yet get NO service. No maintenance, and no snow removal, which also means we may not be able to get fire/rescue or police service if our roads are improperly maintained...they won't be able to get to us. We brought this and a few other things to their attention. We were cut off for time constraints. However, the Co. Manager, Gary Martinez came over to us and asked us to give him a list and they would look into it. Robert provided a list (as we were not able to discuss everything) as well as pictures of our road. So, For a first time doing this, at least they are willing to look into it and get back to us. If we don't get the feedback we are hoping for, we  will attend the next commission meeting Oct 27 th in Frisco (check that date on the Summit Co. website as it may change) It would be REALLY helpful if more of the neighbors got involved to fight for this service.

UPDATE: IMPORTANT: NEXT CO. COMMISSION MEETING HAS US ON THE AGENDA

If you have any other good thoughts, please send them!

Since we brought it to the commission's attention last meeting, our roads are now on the agenda for Oct. 27 at 1:30 meeting - the library in Frisco, Buffalo Mountain Meeting room

PLEASE, if you can attend and make your voices heard, the more of us the better. If you can't attend, please write a letter and we will present it to the commisoners. Summit Cove homeowners wrote letters against a liquir store, and they won, so our voices have power, IF we canmake them heard. Aren't you sick of paying 2x for raod maintenance and snowplowing? Part of our property taxes go towars this. So we pay in taxes and then we pay again to Rob.

Other things to consider when wrting letters or speaking to commisioners:

1. county maintenance and plowing will help homes up here sell (rather than have to become rentals, which is also safer, esp. fire wise) which means maybe they can sell for more now, which means more tax revenue in thecounty coffers. That is their bottom line. Money.

2. The county is open to possible future law suits if fire/rescue and police can't get here because the road is not maintained and there is only ONE way in and out. Thereare supposed to be 2 ways in and out. What if that causes a death? Or other serious consequences?

3. The county caiams it is not theri road/s, but yet they collect fees for permits here, culverts, additions, etc. If not their road, they should not be entitled to do that.

In addition, if they don't claim it to be their road, then we can put up a toll gat andcollect fees to help pay for the damagesothers using our roads cause, esp, trucks and huge turcks.

4. The county is unaware of where our roads even were till we brought it to their attention. The rules were made in the 60's when these may have been just jeep trails(which have been improved at homeowner expense) and there were only a handful of homes. Now there are hundreds of homes - and we allpay taxes, we are their constituents, and we vote.

Who allowed these roads to NOT be built to county standards? Is thatour fault it was permitted?
