Community is about coming together and Alta Vista residents are coming together in many different ways to share ideas and express concerns.
I was greatly encouraged by the participation of neighbors and friends from throughout the community during our tree planting day at San Pedro Springs Park. It was truly a testimony of what can be done when communities come together. While there was plenty of hard work, there was plenty of fun to go around as well. During that time, I also heard from many participants about past experiences in the park and about their hopes and visions of what the park can be to our community. That was great.
I have had similar experiences during our times of working on the housing surveys and in participating in the workgroups for the Midtown Neighborhoods Plan. It is exciting to hear the ideas of others and to have an
opportunity to share a few of my own.
Many have said that the last two AVNA general meetings have been some of our best. In them, we have heard from VIA regarding their proposed Light Rail System, from former mayor Lila Cockrell about the Better Future tax proposal and from Dr. Ruben Olivarez, the new SAISD Superintendent, on his vision for the improvement of our educational system. And while our guest speakers have made wonderful presentations, the meetings would be useless without your participation, without your voice.
I have heard that the best way to predict the future is to create it. When communities come together to work, to play and to communicate, the future becomes predictable. Based upon my recent experiences, Alta Vista?’s future looks promising. Please come participate and help create it.
