Feral Cats

Posted in: Amphi

We trap any feral cats (local pet store will rent one for $6/day or the humane society will rent you one) and then take them to the humane society. They will test them for disease (FIV/FIP/FELV). If they are positive, they likely will be euthanized. But better that than they die in agony of these diseases while going around infecting other cats. If they are clear of disease, they will be given a chance to be tamed and adopted. I can speak for the Pasadena Humane Society in that they give a cat every chance to be adopted. You can also agree to be the cat's "last resort", whereby when they have been there a while and they are on the short list for euthanasia, you can go and pick them up. You probably have to pay for the spay/neuter but it's cheap compared to taking them to the vet.

Good luck and hope you don't catch skunks!

Try:

1) Buying a dog (Scares away more than cats)

2) Buy a trap and transport them to another area; like open desert or the Limberlost neigborhood.

3) Go to the open desert and trap coyotes and release them in the alley behind your house. If you recapture one of the cats you released in the open desert, re-release them in the desert.

4) Use your own money for TNR. Do not use tax dollars since you will be forcibly taking other people's money to solve your problem.

5) Pellet rifle or sling shot.

To Anonymous Coward:

You are the kind of person I hope never to see in my neighborhood. If you follow your own advise, you could well be arrested for cruelty to animals - no, I amend that. Just cats. You obviously love dogs, coyotes - just about anything but cats.

The problem with feral cats begins with irresponsible people who don't neuter their pets, then move and leave them behind. Don't put the blame on the cats - it was the people who were cruel. Unfortunately those people can't be made to pay.

What Tucson should have is an organization that captures the cats with food, neuters the cats, then let them live in an area where they would be safe, but without intruding on most neighborhoods. But you probably don't believe in neutering animals.
