We are pleased that you are thinking of adopting one of our animals to be a part of your family. You are welcome to come in and visit our adoptable animals anytime Mon-Fri 12-5 and Saturdays 9-1. When looking for a companion animal, we urge you to visit often as it may take several visits to find the pet which is right for your lifestyle.
The Animal Welfare League strives to “match” pets with the most appropriate homes for their needs. Our goal is to make the “match”
1. A healthy experience for the animal;
2. A law-abiding experience for the pet, you and the community, and;
3. A happy experience for the entire family.
When you find an animal that appeals to you, we will ask you to fill out an adoption application which a staff member will be happy to review with you. You can expect us to ask questions!!! Why?
1. To get acquainted with you and your family and to become your friend.
2. To find out what you expect of a pet.
3. To avoid future problems.
4. To be as thorough and honest as we can with you concerning this animal.
5. To make this a solid, permanent adoption.
We have several policies regarding adoption which our staff is trained to explain. Some of our policies are quite strict for the sake of the animals and we do reserve the right to refuse any adoption if such action is in the best interest of the animal.
We cannot guarantee any pet to be free of disease or internal parasites. In fact, many health problems could possibly pass our watchful eyes because we are not trained veterinarians. We are however very observant of each animal and long experience has helped us notice the obvious problems. Each cage is disinfected daily and sick animals are segregated at once. We do our best to offer only healthy animals for adoption.
We expect YOU to make an immediate trip to the vet of your choice upon adopting a pet.
THIS IS VITAL ! ! !
All dogs, cats, and ferrets adopted from the shelter are required to be SPAYED or NEUTERED; there are NO EXCEPTIONS !!! Nor will small animals be adopted for breeding purposes.
Our purpose for this requirement is to reduce the terrible over-population of companion animals world wide. Like many counties, many of our animals are received as strays. A few are reclaimed by their owners, some are lucky enough to be adopted, and the rest (a large part) are humanely put to death. We hate this tragedy because we love and respect all life. However, until companion animal populations are decreased to the point where every pet lives in an appropriate and responsible home, we take this responsibility very seriously to relieve animal suffering and to solve health and safety problems in our community.
