Hello!
Is there a Homeowner's Association President or Board member in Apple Green that we can contact about the Apple Green Cemetery?
Several people have gotten in touch with us (most are elderly and/or live elsewhere) whose ancestors are buried there. The last time they visited, they were concerned because some of the gravestones have been damaged, and trees and bushes are growing up around them which will undermine their stability eventually. Are there any dedicated or interested gardeners in the community who would be interested in taking on the maintenance of the cemetery?
Problem is, there are as many things NOT to do, as there are things that need to be done - for instance, no weedeaters (damages the base of the stones) and no stone scrubbing (damages the surface) and saplings have to be removed carefully to prevent additional damage to the stones when they're uprooted.
The descendants are gathering funds to repair some of the most seriously damaged stones, and hope to have this done within a year, but they're mostly concerned with ongoing maintenance. There are some great stories about the people buried there, and if you'd like a mini-history lesson about them and the families who lived there in the past, when it was the Taneyhill Farm, we'd be happy to comply!
Thank you. If you want to contact us by phone, please call 410 535-2452.
