TENNIS COMMITTEE ELECTIONS
The Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association teams that play from Arden Lake will be having elections for a Committee Chairman and Treasurer. This committee will be made up of the Chairman, Treasurer, the Team Captain from each team, and a representative Board Member. The Committee will be setting the rules and regulations for ALTA team play at our courts. The elections are tentatively planned for the end of September. If you have questions or comments, you may contact a Board Member for more information.
NEIGHBORHOOD GARAGE SALE – 16 October
Need to clean out your garage, basement, or attic…maybe all three? We are planning a neighborhood garage sale to do just that. We will advertise it a few days in advance. You only need to have your things in your driveway/yard/garage that day for those driving through the neighborhood.
FALL CLEAN-UP DAY – 23 October 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Its that time of year again…time to spruce up the neighborhood. We will be doing several maintenance items around the clubhouse, pool, and tennis courts. If you have any items or areas that you think need to be addressed during the clean-up, contact a Board member and let them know.
This time, though, we’ll help you clean up around your house, too…sort of. We will have a roll-off dumpster available for you to use to dispose of things around your home that you no longer want (or that did not sell during our Neighborhood Garage Sale). Please note that you CANNOT dispose of appliances with.freon, lawnmowers, items with gas engines, air conditioning units, oil, oil rags, paint, items with hazardous waste, tires, batteries, or railroad ties.
SHARE THE COST OF EQUIPMENT RENTAL
If you are interested in sharing the cost, Dave Liber will be renting an aerator (the machine that pokes holes in your yard to allow more air to penetrate the surface of the soil) on 25 September. If you want to share the cost, call Dave at (770) 517-7468. If you would like to share the cost of any other type of equipment, such as a chipper/shredder now that the hurricanes have caused so many limbs to fall, contact a member of the Board.
NEW BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED
There are two Board members whose terms will expire at the end of the year. Please seriously consider giving of your time to serve on the Board of your neighborhood Homeowner’s Association. It is a great way to meet other neighbors, and to work together to keep our neighborhood attractive and keep our home values rising.
DO NOT DUMP MATERIALS DOWN THE DRAINS
It has come to the Board’s attention that someone dumped what looked to be paint down a drain and the material ended up in the lake. This is not only hazardous, but is also illegal. The county and state assess steep fines for this activity, so please ensure that you or anyone that may be working on your house do not put things down the drains or into the lake that should not go there.
WELCOME NEW BOARD MEMBER (TREASURER)!!!!
We are happy to welcome another new board member. Larry Grimm has volunteered to take over the Treasurer duties from Bruce Nicol, so now Bruce can be officially released from his duties. We would like to thank Bruce once again for his service the last couple of years. By the way, we can always use more board members for filling the different committee positions, so please let a board member know if you can help out, or better yet just show up at the next board meeting.
STREET CAPTAINS WANTED
In an effort to help coordinate things in the neighborhood, the Board has come up with the concept of Street Captains. The idea would be that each street in the neighborhood would have a person designated (or who hopefully would volunteer) to be the contact person for that street. This would help for things like Neighborhood Watch, handing out the Scoop, keeping the directory updated with the names of new neighbors, welcoming new move-ins, helping out with social events for your street, and the like. If you are interested, please contact Rick Crow. If we do not get volunteers, we will seek persons by assignment.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE PLANNING SOME GREAT EVENTS
Wouldn’t it be nice to know more people in your neighborhood? Since there are only 130 lots in Arden Lake, there is no reason why we should not know more of our neighbors than we do. To help alleviate that, the Social Committee is restarting in order to bring us closer together as neighbors. They will be planning a number of events for young and old alike. Some ideas are Movie Night, Poker Night, Scrapbooking Night, Ice Cream Social, babysitters for Date Night and Mothers Day Out, Neighborhood campout at Red Top Mountain, Races at Dixie Speedway, and a bunch of other events. The Social Committee just needs 3 things to pull this off…ideas, volunteers and participants! So, if you have any ideas for a fun social event for the neighborhood or would like to volunteer to help put one or more together, please contact the Social Committee Chairman, Bill Okvist. And when an event is planned, please show your support by attending if possible.
RAISING ISSUES WITH THE BOARD
Recently someone composed complaint letters and put them in neighbor’s mailboxes, addressing them as if they were from the Board. If someone has a complaint about the condition of a neighbor’s property, they should bring it up with the neighbor in a non-confrontational manner. If the matter is not taken care of, the Board should be notified so that appropriate actions may be taken. We all wish for our neighborhood to continue to be attractive and for the values of our property to continue to increase, and by working together we can accomplish this.
POOL IS OPEN !!!
The Pool hours are:
Sunday – Thursday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Friday – Saturday 11 a. m. – 9 p.m.
You must be at least 10 years old to swim without parent supervision. Swimmers 18 and over are welcome to swim after regular pool hours.
If you have any questions or problems concerning the pool or lifeguards, contact Troy Ogea at (678) 445-1457.
WELCOME NEW BOARD MEMBERS !!!!
We are happy to welcome 3 new board members. They are Karen Sweet, Bill Okvist, and Ronnie Colston. Karen is in charge of Clubhouse Scheduling and the Neighborhood Directory. Bill is overseeing Landscaping, and Ronnie is Secretary and Political and Civic Organization contact. Troy Ogea once again agreed to continue overseeing the issues dealing with the Pool. We are still looking to fill the Treasurer position since Bruce’s tenure has come to a close. We are very grateful to these new members for their willingness to serve you and our neighborhood. We would also like to give a great big THANK YOU to Sandra Spinks, Linda Pernell and Bruce Nichol for their service the last couple of years.
SPRING NEIGHBORHOOD WORK DAY COMING – Saturday 22 May 9-11 a.m.
Its that time of year again. Time to put in couple of hours to help keep our neighborhood looking nice and maintaining what needs to be taken care of. Doing this keeps the values of our homes increasing, and we all want that! We plan to spread pine straw, apply weather sealer to wooden surfaces, and clean up the pool furniture and patio. We will need a few pressure washers, so if you have one that can be used, please let a member of the board know, and also if you will be able to help with the cleanup. Also, if you know of any things that need to be done, please submit any suggestions or ideas to one of your board members or send it to the Arden Lake email address below.
POOL OPENING – Saturday 22 May 11 a.m.
We have all been waiting for this day! The pool will be opening on Saturday, 22 May. This is a week earlier than normal (usually opens on Memorial Day weekend), but we thought is worth the few dollars extra to get the lifeguards a week earlier since school will be out.
The Pool hours will be:
Sunday – Thursday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Friday – Saturday 11 a. m. – 9 p.m.
You must be at least 10 years old to swim without parent supervision. Swimmers 18 and over are welcome to swim after regular pool hours.
If you have any questions or problems concerning the pool or lifeguards, contact Troy Ogea.
Remember, swim team starts the week of 17 May.
REFERRAL LIST FOR HOME REPAIR OR IMPROVEMENT
We are still looking for input for our neighborhood referral list. We would like to put together a list of Service Providers that can be referred to when choosing someone for a home repair or improvement. If you have had work done and would like to recommend someone for the list, please send the information to the Arden Lake email address below or to Rick Crow. We will compile a list and distribute it on a regular basis. Examples would be roofing, electrical, plumbing, finishing basement, landscaping, or any other service that may apply.
