MORELAND NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING MINUTES
MARCH 14, 2001



Present: John Rea, Ron Deustermann, Betty Deustermann, Jack Wallin, Helen Wallin,
Diane Baker, Heidi Heller, Mark Tessmer

Meeting was called to order at 7pm
¨ Approval of minutes/agenda
¨ Welcome to Heidi, Neighboorhood & Crime Prevention Coordinator
¨ Welcome to Mark Tessmer, newest Council Member
¨ John will be moving out our neighborhood association area. Ron will be taking over as of this meeting.

Spring Newsletter
¨ We reviewed each page of the newsletter.
¨ Jack & Diane will proofread the newsletter.
¨ We will label the newsletter at our April meeting.

Spring General Meeting
¨ The meeting will be Wednesday, May 2 at Moreland School
¨ We will have 2 speakers at the Spring General Meeting.
* Mayor – Dave Meisinger
* New Director of Community Development – Rick Jopke
¨ Miriam will host the meeting & the election of resident council members.
¨ We went over the door prizes that we have.
¨ Jack will talk to Rainbow about cookies.

Checking Account
¨ We currently have our garage sale money in a savings account at Liberty State Bank in St. Paul. We would like to move the account to a West St. Paul bank and change it to a checking account, so it is easier to pay bills from it. We will pay the bills for our general meetings and National Night Out from this account and then reimburse the account when we get the check from the city.
¨ Jack will check with Anchor Bank about the terms to set up a Moreland Neighborhood Association checking account.

Stationary & Name Badges
¨ Betty distributed the name badges.
¨ Betty brought our new stationary & envelopes.

Advisory Board
¨ We need another Advisory Board member

Make a Difference
¨ Spring Thaw for Crisis Nursery on April 28

Garlough Coop
¨ Nick Juarez is soliciting help for the Garlough Coop
¨ Will meet once a month
¨ Next meeting is at Garlough School on March 27 at 7pm in the cafeteria

Round Robin
¨ Mark Tessmer – Goals of the Council
1. Continue quality housing & Robert Street revitalization. Voluntarily buy old houses & sell them to a developer to build a new house.
2. Market residential & commercial properties
3. Turn back Robert Street from the State to the County
4. Gateways to West St. Paul on Robert Street – using nice signs at Southview & Annapolis
5. Reduce & minimize illegal drugs in West St. Paul
6. Keep open communication regarding National Guard for a joint Community Center
7. Review financial impact of parks master plan
8. Revise plans for neighborhood associations – more participation & quantitative milestones

¨ Shelly’s looking for old neighborhood signs

Our next meeting will be at 7:00pm on April 11 at city hall
