Ascot Neighborhood News
October 2013
The Ascot Homeowners Board met Tuesday, October 15, at 7:30 pm at Bill Kelley’s home. Members present included Chris Bolster, Tim Malone, Bill Kelley, Vicki Lyon, and Libby McConnell
Treasurer’s Report:
Bill presented an updated financial report.
Property Maintenance:
Please take care to maintain property swimming pools so that there is no standing water on covers. Please drain any standing water on your property, as water stagnation can be an environmental health and safety hazard and cause mosquitoes to breed.
Neighborhood Update:
Three houses have changed hands this year. There are no houses currently on the market.
Thanks to all who have shown support to the Gross Family during Joanne’s illness.
Neighbor Kerri Costley continues to organize community help for them.
Congratulations to neighbor Viveka Fuenzalida, who received the Barbara Varon Volunteer Award, recognizing a Fairfax County resident’s dedication to improving the community through volunteer service. Cathy Hudgins helped present this year’s award. Viveka was recognized for her work to promote voter registration with residents new to Fairfax County, along with her involvement with Reston-Herndon FISH (Friendly Instant Sympathetic Help) and the League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area.
If you are interested in organizing a neighborhood Bunko night (ladies) or poker night (men), please contact Libby McConnell or Vicki Lyon.
Surrounding Community Interest:
The Money property is under contract and is being surveyed. This property is on the Reston side of Rt. 7, just past the next neighborhood past Bishopsgate, The acreage runs up to the back of Ascot’s subdivision. We need to keep an eye on hearings regarding this property, as it will affect homes on the left side of Burywood Lane (going down the hill) and a couple of homes on Bishopsgate Way.
Cathy Hudgins’ office has informed us that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will be addressing the second phase of the Route 7 widening from Reston Avenue to Jarrett Valley Drive at a community meeting on November 6 at Colvin Run Elementary School. The meeting will run from 6:00pm-8:30pm. Neighbors are encouraged to attend, to discuss initial concepts and designs.
Formal meeting minutes are available upon request.
