Questions and Answers….

Q: I haven?’t received my mail because a homeowner across the street keeps parking their vehicle in the street and the mailman cannot get to my mailbox, what can be done about this, as I have missed several mail deliveries?
A: We addressed the issue of parking vehicles in the street in the last newsletter and have addressed it again in this newsletter. We have sent the owner of the vehicle a letter informing them of the problem. Let us know if it occurs again.
Q: What can be done about the rehabilitation house on Saint Bride Lane? They have an excessive number of vehicles parked on the street and come and go at all hours of the day and night.
We have sent American Habilitation Services a letter about their employees parking on the street and have asked them to either widen the driveway to allow more vehicles to park safely or use the garage. We have also contacted the city?’s zoning department to see how this commercial enterprise was allowed in a single-family residential neighborhood in the first place. We are waiting on their reply to our inquiry.
Q: My neighbor has a cat that keeps coming into my yard to use the bathroom. Its feces are everywhere. I asked the neighbor to control their cat, but they haven?’t done anything about it, can you do something?
A: You can call the city?’s one-call center at 630-2489. They will help you file a complaint with animal control. You can also request an affidavit form be sent to you in the mail. This form can be signed, notarized and mailed back to animal control. On the form you will indicate the date and time as well as the specific circumstances surrounding your complaint. If you can take pictures, that will help. Once the form is received by animal control, they will respond and issue a citation to the cat?’s owner since an affidavit means a city inspector does not have to physically witness the violation. It also means that you will testify if the case goes to court.
Q: (Item From Action Request Form) I would like to see screens or filters added to the drains.
A: The city told us they cannot install filters or screen materials on roadway drains because this causes them to clog easier and it would reduce the flow of water going down the drain during periods of heavy rain thereby increasing the chances of street flooding.
Q: (Item From Action Request Form) Why don?’t you charge an activity fee for those who participate in association activities?
A: Good question, we?’ll ask the new Recreational Committee (If one is appointed) this question.
Q: (Item From Action Request Form) What is being done about the Winnebago that is parked in the field beneath the power lines when you first come into Ashford Unit Three?
A: We are working with JEA to determine access to that area. Once that is determined, we will proceed. If JEA approves the use of their property as a transit area for the RV, the association will require the owner to place the RV behind a barrier fence so that it complies with the Covenants and Restrictions.
Q: (Item From Action Request Form) Why can?’t we get the city to drive a street sweeper through the neighborhood, the streets look so bad, especially those who blow grass in the street when they mow their lawns.
A: We called the city and requested they have a sweeper come through the neighborhood but they do not make routing visits to private neighborhoods. Individual homeowners are responsible for cleaning up their grass clippings after mowing their lawn and should not just blow them in the street. That eventually causes drainage problems as the grass clippings end up clogging the drains flowing into the retention ponds.
