Neighborhood Communications

Posted in: Castleberry Hill
The communication between the Neighborhood Association and residents needs significant improvement. Once again, we have a meeting scheduled for tonight but there are no signs posted in the neighborhood. The only way you would be aware of this meeting is if you are on the Neighborhood email distribution list. I'm sure there are numerous residents who either don't have email or don't check it on a regular basis and thus have no way of finding out about the meeting.

I am also concerned about the lack of notice regarding important issues. For example, at the last meeting when the Steering Committee Findings were unvielved, people were asked to vote on them at the meeting. I would hazard a guess that a majority of the attendees were not aware there was even a Steering Committee. This is not the first time we have been asked to vote on the spot about an issue that no one had had an opportunity to adequately review.

I know working for the Neighborhood Association requires a great deal of time and effort and I appreciate the efforts of those who are actively involved. However, it is my belief that there is an unwillingness or inability to share the responsibility. For example, I voluntereed my services over a year ago to help complete the 501(c)(3) application. They were turned down or ignored. To date, I don't know if that application has been finished. My wife on several occasions has voluntered to coordinate getting trash cans installed throughout the neighborhood. She was also turned down and we still don't have any trash cans.

The bottom line is is that there is too much to do for a select few individuals. I think people out there want to help but are either not being asked or are being discouraged from asking by a lack of follow through. One of these areas is communications. If we can do a better job of communicating with the residents, we will get more people involved. The Association just needs to ask people for help. I think we need to post of list of resource needs on this web site and request volunteers.
