Auburndale Neighborhood Group

ANA Minutes March 23

50 Auburndale residents were in attendance to hear veterinarian and South Louisville businessman Dr. Rusty Gailor discuss pet care issues and to recount he and his partners quest to redevelop the south corner Kenwood and New Cut into restaurant and shopping facilities.  Targeted lobbying by outside interests blocked the initiative.  Today the corner remains vacant.

There is renewed interest for expanded Block Watch within the neighborhood.  Ken Williams will follow up requests.

Board Member Stephen Cotton demonstrated the recently acquired LOJIC data base of the Auburndale Neighborhood.  The database documents every facet and characteristic of the Neighborhood and will be essential in neighborhood planning and revitalization projects.  Auburndale has a vision statement before it for consideration.  This effort goes far beyond fixing potholes for it INVOLVES OUR FUTURE.

Confusion and misunderstanding over the outdoor warning siren system continues.  From the  website: There has been recent confusion about the siren at Kenwood School destroyed by the hurricane force winds of September, 2008.  The coverage map has been reposted on the Auburndale Website.

The map depicts the old siren # 25 and the relocated siren # 25. All other circles (black) are sirens within the coverage area. If you notice the relocated siren has a larger coverage area (footprint) than the others, which is correct. The most important issue to convey; Louisville Metro's Outdoor Warning System is for OUTDOOR WARNING not intended to warn those in-door, Louisville’s Emergency Management Services strongly encourage folks to have a “All Hazards Weather Radio” with battery backup for indoor warning. Also the newly installed Siren 25 has battery back up whereas old 25 did not
