March 28 Community Cleanup Day - A Frontline Report

Update from Auburndale Coordinator Ken McFarland:
Being my first time working The Clean -up, as team leader I did not Know what to expect .

Lori Edwards (team leader from Kenwood Elementary) and I were totally amazed when about 50 people arrived fired-up and excited to get the job done !!!!.

Despite all the storm warnings at this early morning hour, Councilwoman Vicky Welch greeted each and every one of us and provided a morning snack.

Kenwood volunteers armed with T-Shirts, Bags,and Gloves attacked the trash like Commando Fighters. One Squad sorted the glass ,cans,and paper as they picked it up. We took 6 full bags to the recycling containers and saved the bag to use again. At Manslick and Gagel , I notice a large group of hard working Brightside volunteers cleaning up there. WOW! Everyone worked hard and would not quit even as the misty rain started

The Kids return from Spring Break on Monday. Many of the volunteers enjoyed the Lassister's hospitality of refreshments and the tour of their Green House. Some people bought flowers to help with their fund raiser. I really enjoyed working with Lori and meeting the wonderful people who come out on a cold rainy Sat. at 8:am to pick -up other peoples trash. Many thanks to UPS and Brightside for their support!

When all is said and done

Success only happens when caring people come together as one. On March 28 one could see neighborhood residents, teachers, parents and students doing their part for the betterment of south Louisville. Literally in our area, those brightside t-shirts could be seen from Gagel Avenue to the Outer Loop and beyond.

A debt of gratitude to Councilwoman Vicki Welch for promoting and supporting our efforts

When the job was done, south Louisville seemed so much brighter!
