Nothing to do with UNI

Posted in: Audubon Riverside
I know this has been a hot subject around the hood - but am stunned to see that UNI used an email to ARNA members to annouce their meeitng regarding the new development, knowing that ARNA had a discussion planned of its own.

Obvuously there was a reason to form ARNA. A need in our neighborhood.
Pat Williamson, who belongs to both organizations say UNI wants to liason and cooperate with ARNA. I think that ARNA needs to develop its own voice.

The purposes of ARNA are spelled out. The membership is growing. Together we are working for a stronger, better neighborhood. I see no need to liason with another group. We need to develop our own organization. UNI has nothing to do with ARNA and should not where the opinions of our membership is concerned.

I think UNI needs to stop trying to create an imaginary battle. Many of us joined ARNA because it was the first time we have been encouraged to get involved in our neighborhood. If both organizations are working for the betterment of the neighborhood seperately then the end result will be the betterment of the neighborhood.

Let's stand on our own and let the voices of ARNA members be heard. I don't think that is being uncooperative. I think it is being our own group!

If you disagree, respond. Any anonymous responses will be assumed to be UNI members who got the link from Pat.
Thanks, Virginia

I, too am vey happy to be a part of this new organization, and believe in our mission to increase neighborhood awareness and involvement.

Combine to one?

Whoa, why should there be 2 or more? Surely one set of views is better than 2 groups fighting for the same idea, put differently. You are being very 'them and us'.

Why don't we invite them to join us? For new residents, it is easier to join a single group, than chose between 2 - i.e. not join either

Are you kidding?

I don't mean to be antagonistic, Mr. Bowers, but do you realize what this neighborhood went through with UNI and what precipitated the creation of ARNA?? As I understand it, the steering committee tried everything to avoid forming a new association, but UNI was not interested in having a constructive discussion. Did you know that UNI is an exclusive club--their board of directors can accept or reject the membership of anyone at will--that UNI is not open to everyone within its boundaries?? It would be nice to live in an ideal world, but UNI decided that ARNA and UNI can't work together--UNI made it ''us and them.'' Don't attack Ms. Saussy for speaking the truth. Sometimes it is better for dinosaurs to become extinct, rather than make attempts to save them.
