ANC voted against supporting the AISD bonds #1 and #5, while supporting all four of the others.
Jeff Jacks, the VP for this city wide neighborhood group, carried the day with his aruguments that schools spur growth where it shouldn't happen, busing is a better alternative for over crowded schools, and his very tired argument that it gives to much to the newer neighborhoods and hurts inner city schools (he and many of the members continue to dispute the growth figures that show that inner city schools are suffering from a declining enrollment trend).
It's an important group, but the vote really comes too late for them to do much more than take a postition. They have no money to promote their agenda.
SOS has not taken an official stand on this issue. The maintain that building on the aquifer zone should be discouraged as much as possible.
