Points of interest:
You hungry Parksters ?– April 29th is the Taste of City Heights International Food Festival. Tickets will be on sale for $9.00 at the next monthly meeting, April 11th. T-shirts will be an additional $6.00.

Congratulations to the election winners ?– Juan Vargas, Toni Atkins, Ron Roberts ?– who are fans of Azalea Park?’s active community involvement. Also, congratulations to Christine Kehoe who received the most votes for State Assembly in a different district. Toni and Ron face a run-off in November and Juan and Chris must face their Republican opponents.

Ricardo Castillo, who teaches 4th grade Biliteracy at Hamilton Elementary School, addressed the need for proactive community input at that school ?– involvement other than teachers/administrators. He will keep us informed of developments at Hamilton. Anyone wishing to volunteer there may contact Ricardo at 528-9415.

Dr. Dena Mangiamele, the new Director of the Department of Animal Control spoke of the five year plan to have a ?“No Kill Shelter?” through affordable spaying, educating the public and law enforcement involvement. Also, anyone who has a horror story about encountering loose viscous pit bulls on our neighborhood streets are urged to write to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 335, San Diego, CA, 92101. The Supervisors need to hear about these problems so resources can be directed at them.

Lt. Ward, of the Special Enforcement Patrol, announced a recent successful sweep in City Heights resulting in a pick-up of five dogs instead of twenty as before. People are getting the message to ?“control their animals?”. Of course, more work needs to be done.

Many thanks to Betty Bostic, Mary Ramsey, Diane David, Lynn Tomaro, and Rita Wolf who brought blankets and towels to be taken back to the shelter to put in the cages to provide a little comfort for the animals.
