Description of Department

Welcome to the Building and Code Enforcement Division of the Valparaiso Planning and Building Department.

The Department of Building is responsible for the administration and enforcement of all provisions of the City Zoning Ordinance. All permits for excavation, construction, moving or alteration, or changes in type of occupancy must be reviewed and released by this office before construction, alterations, relocation, or change of use. Review and process of all permit applications for all building structures, including fences and swimming pools, are initiated through the Department of Building with follow-up of required inspections and final release for use or occupancy.
