Due to the problems with the weeds we've had around the entrance sign and the bag worms that destroyed the Junipers, the Board felt this area needed to be redone and redesigned. We thought it best to use trees and shrubs that are lower maintenance and less disease pronged which limits the amount of future maintenance. Less maintenance requirements ultimately help to keep our assessment fee manageable.
We had stone installed around the area instead of mulch to avoid the unsightly weeds that accumulate more in the mulch.
Well, I'm happy to announce the front entrance redesign is now completed, as promised at the annual meeting.
The landscaping work was performed by a local landscaping company, Delaware Lawn and Tree Services off of Rt. 7 at Red Lion Rd. The trees and plants used are 10 Hoogendorn Hollies located in the front of the sign. Use of low growing shrubs in the front of the sign will allow us to show off the beautiful stone wall that's been covered for a number of years by the overgrown shrubs that were replaced. There are 2 beautiful Muskogee Crape Myrtle Trees which will bloom with lavendar pink flowers late spring and summer; 1 upright Columnar Spruce Evergreen and 8 Variegated Liriope all located in back of the sign.
Old trees and shrubs were removed and the soil prepared for planting on Thursday, Nov 19. All trees, shrubs and stone were installed and completed Friday, November 20, 2009. The team of guys from Delaware Lawn and Tree did an excellent job. We hope the design chosen by your nominated board is acceptable to all.
Please keep in mind that this is just one of the services that our assessment dollars pay for. So, it's very important that everyone pays their assessments so that we will always have the funds needed to maintain our beautiful community.
