Tractor Trucks don?’t
belong in your
Neighborhood
by Elbert Rich, Jr.
Have you noticed that truck drivers
disregard the City Ordinance Code
Section #37: 1-3 which prohibits the
parking of tractor trailers and cabs in
residential neighborhoods. Take a look
at Orange Mound. There are trucks
parked on residential streets and in the
driveways of home throughout the
area. This is against the law. If you
visit the Germantown, Collierville, or
Cordova areas, you will not see this
type of disregard on behalf of the
driver?’s of the big trucks. The
Barksdale/Cloverdale Neighborhood
Association, Inc. and the David Street
Block Club, Inc. has taken the extra
steps to insuring that their
neighborhoods are clear of these
unwanted trucks.
The Shelby County Code Enforcement
is responsible for citing such vehicles
that are found to be in violation.
Unfortunately, the offices of the Code
Enforcement are closed after 5 p.m.
during the times these trucks may be
found in the neighborhoods. What can
you do ?
1. Write down the name of the truck
company, truck number located on the
truck, the tag number, and the address
where the truck is parked.
2. If there is a tractor Trailer or Cab
parked on your street, call the
Memphis Police Department and
inform them that you have a truck on
your street that you would like an
officer to issue a citation.
3. You may also contact the truck
company and report the violation to
the safety department or manager of
the truck company.
4. If the matter continues, contact the
Shelby County Code Enforcement
Department at 6465 Mullins Station
RD, Memphis, Tennessee 38134 or call
them at 385-5076.
If the truck is parked on the
street the Memphis Police Department
handles the complaint. If the truck is
parked on the property of a resident,
the Shelby County Code Enforcement
Department handles the complaint.
Currently the two agencies are trying
to come together in order that the
Memphis Police Department can cite a
truck that is parked on the property of
a residential home.
