Public Boat Ramp

Posted in: Bay Crest Park
A few boaters from outside the community are spoiling it for others who use the facility. Parking and vandalism are a problem. It was suggested that perhaps the ramp should be declaed a nuisance and ask the County to close it. We received some comments at the November General Membership Meeting and through the mail. If you have an oponion on this, let us know.

I think it is rediculous to consider closing the boat ramp. I ,for one, considered the availability of a boat ramp in my neighborhood as a"plus" when I purchased my home. Its presence is a plus for our neighborhood and contributes to our property values. I will certainly fight to keep it. The solution to the problem is for residents to report illegal parking, activities to the Sheriff as they are seen.

Boat Ramp

As with most of the other boaters in Bay Crest, access to a neighborhood ramp was a real plus when we considered the purchase of our home here. The recent improvements to the ramp are making the area more attractive. The building on that property is in need of a paint job and hopefully that will be part of the ongoing project. Those who violate parking and ramp rules should be immediately reported to our Neighborhood Resources Officer. We should not give up this valuable community asset.

Mr. Gonzales and Mrs Cobb have both commented, I feel correctly, on the boat ramp issue. The boat ramp is an asset to the community and a convenience for our residents. It is however, at the same time a nuisance to several residents who live near it and are impacted by the abuse of it by some boaters. I agree that calling the CR Deputy when we see violations at the ramp is the correct course of action. We need to be sensitive to the fact that in some cases the Sheriff will not be able to react immediately based on other higher priority problems being serviced. That fact in no way however should DETER us from calling to report violations.

The Civic Association recently sent a letter to the County Water Department complaining of the deteriorating conditions at our lift stations. They responded on 21 APRIL and did a complete survey of all four Lift Stations in Bay Crest. I received a call yesterday afternoon telling me they agreed that maintenance and spruce up of all stations was needed and will be undertaken. Contracts will be let where necessary within 60 days for painting and reroofing, etc. ALSO our County Commissioner will visit Bay Crest in May on several issues and the Lift Stations are one of the areas he will be shown. You may have noticed the Parks Department just put new posts in around the boat ramp. Again we had requested this beautification.
