Vehicles in Driveways / Streets

Posted in: Bay Crest Park
Unfortunately, Bay Crest Park has gone the way of so many other suburban neighborhoods. Garages are no longer used for their intended purpose but have become storage spaces or have been remodeled and disappeared all together. I understand that the lack of an attic or basement can put a cramp on space, but that is why there are storge rental facilities. Our neighborhood has become a massive car, boat and trailer storage lot, which seriously effects the attractiveness of our homes and our property values. Please use your garage for your vehicles; put your boat on davits or a lift; or, store it along with your trailer off site.

Vehicles in Driveways and Street

Mindee: Good points and I think you tempered them well. By that I mean we have some residents who would like to see the Sheriff out ticketing folks daily. Unfortunately, as you point out this is Florida, the lack of basements and walk in attics impacts where many "needed" or perceived to be needed items must be kept, i.e. in a garage. Storing of boats and trailers of smaller size is not prohibeted by code. Some folks do take advantage of this and store several boats and trailers in and around their property. I consider them not very good neighbors but my opinion is only my opinion. Good neighbors try not to let their lifestyle impact those around them. I think that is why ancient man created GOVT. Today, GOVT seems to support the exception rather than the whole and that is what we are saddled with. I only wish there was someway to control some of the things that do lead to blight but there is limited we can do. By the way, in my mind parking two cars in a two car driveway, because the garage is full is what the driveway was intended for. It is the abuse of the area with boats, trailers and particularly commercial vehicles that rankles me. Davits for boats and commercial work areas are the proper place for business vehicles. Some people will take every advantage of the existing code and unfortunately we have to live with it. Thanks for caring and commenting. We need more concerned, active citizens.

This is a Boating community

I agree about hanging boats on davits, etc. but remember, this is a waterfront boating community. That is why most of us live here. With that comes times when it is necessary to pull the boat out and do some minor work on it before returning it to the sea.
You should be more tolerant or move to a non boating community.

Additionally, many of us in Baycrest have children of driving age and thus have several cars. It is FAR more dangerous to park cars in the street than to park in driveways and possibly block a sidewalk. You are WELCOME to walk on my grass to get around the car. We need to be more tolerant of our neighbors. Many of us bought in Baycrest because we do not want to live in the Nazi-like deed restricted neighborhoods. If that is what you like, you should move there! We have lived in Baycrest for over 20 years and it has not been until the last few years when the 30-somethings started moving in that the intolerance began. Where did we go wrong in raising your generation?
Intolerable?

I don't think this woman is wrong just because she differs from your views. ''Our generation'' would like to come home to a neighborhood that doesn't have run-down houses, boats and cars in the middle of the yard and trash in the gutters. I think this is a nice neighborhood but could be better if people would start taking pride in their surroundings and stop making excuses for the way their homes look. I agree with you about the ridiculous deed restrictions in of the new communities, but what can you do when your neighbor has 5 cars parked in the yard? Who wants to look at that when they get up in the morning?
