  • Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor

Enough…

We are angered and disgusted at the lack of any “quality of life” in this neighborhood.

We’ve had our morning room windows broken with a rock, hand prints from food smeared on one side of the back of our house, and eggs thrown against the back wall of the house...  not to mention various neighbors, of varying ages, using our lot as a thoroughfare between our street and some destination behind us.  We know that other neighbors have experienced similar disrespectful behavior directed towards their home and property, as well.  This is unacceptable.

A dorm room would have a better quality of life, mainly because they have someone patrolling the area and “reminding” occupants of what behavior is expected.  We are all paying mortgages at a cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars that cannot be recovered in today’s economy.  The least we should be able to expect is that neighbors, the adults and the children they are responsible for raising and teaching respectful behavior, would give others’ property the same consideration and respect they want for their own.

We would like to suggest a petition to change the deed restrictions to allow security fences to be installed, beyond the ranch type fences described in Section 11 of the existing deed restrictions.  At the very least exceptions should be allowed to provide neighbors with an opportunity to secure their property.   The restrictions on fences, we’re sure, did not consider the current environment in our neighborhood.   Metal or picket fencing (whatever the height) can be a better deterrent than the open wood design and still complement the aesthetics of the property.
