Have you looked over your annual property tax bill? No, have you really looked at all the different departments of the county and what they are charging you? I've been going over it this morning with a magnifiying glass and I've made a couple of calls to get more information on what and how we are being charged this taxes.
One thing that stands out to me at the moment is the charge of $169.58 for street lighting. I'm curious what the other 115 residents of Bella Vista are being charged. Is everyone charged the same or different amounts? I'm waiting on a call back from the number that is listed next to this item to find out how they calculate these. So, how many lights do we have in our community that we are paying for? How many lights are replaced each year on average? Are we paying for the initial installation of the lights and the concrete poles and wiring and labor over a period of years still? If so, will we ever see our tax decrease on this one item when the initial cost is paid off? It would only seem right to me.
It's these little things that we as a people need to be aware of and keep tabs on in order to keep our government straight. I don't know about you but I hate throwing money away. I like saving money. I'll post back here when and if I get a call back on this and let you know what I find out. I want to understand what I'm paying for.
