I don't know about you but I assume most of us don't take the time to do what is needed to have a nice weed free and green lawn. I've been researching this for over a year off and on now. I just got off the phone with a person at the Hillsborough County Extension Service office in Plant City. The lady there is going to email a form to send to the University of Florida to have some soil testing done. She said $7.00 for the complete test with a complete analysis of what the soil mixture is would be sent back to me.
I found a Facebook page this morning from the County Extension office with several videos on lawn care, irrigation and fertilization. One in particular caught my attention as it was describing the numbers on the fertilizer bag and how to interpret them and how to figure out how much of what fertilizer material to put on your lawn. After the three minutes video I was left awestruck in knowing that I didn't have a clue as to what I had been doing with my lawn. No wonder it's so weedy and getting worse. The lady on the phone laughed when she told me that the Scott's Bonus-S only has week killer to kill two types of weeds in Florida. That's why it is not that effective and I'm seeing more weeds each year.
I'm hoping in my quest I'll get all the answers I need. I really want to have a super lawn like what I see in the medians of Westchase that I happened to drive through yesterday. I figure they must know something and it is possible. Yeah, they have a commercial company taking care of it and they probably have access to chemicals that we don't as a consumer. But, they have education that is required to be in that businesss too. Now, I just need to get educated. I know I can find the chemicals if I look hard enough. More to come!
