Belle Morris Community Action Group

The Knox County Health Department (KCHD) is organizing a Neighborhood Walking Group program and would like to invite you to join us! 
 
KCHD has been awarded a grant from the Tennessee Department of Health to improve the health, fitness and quality of life for community members in Knoxville and Knox County.  Our goal for the neighborhood walking program is to promote physical activity and build community connections within neighborhoods.  In return, neighborhood leaders and walking group participants will be eligible for some great incentives and prizes!
 
 
We need your help to start a walking group in your neighborhood.  We are looking for 1-2 walking leaders per neighborhood to assist in organizing and implementing a group where you live.  This leader can be you or someone in your neighborhood that you think would like to lead a group.  If you have a specific person in mind, please send us their contact details and we can contact them on your behalf.  
 
The KCHD hosted program will run for eight weeks in March and April.  During this time we ask you to record your walking group’s activities.  At the end of the eight weeks we will host a recognition picnic for all participants with prizes for those who have met or exceeded the set walking goals.  All participants will receive incentives just for being a part of the walking group (ex. t-shirt, reusable bag).
 
 
We will host an informational session for all walking group leaders on February 22nd at 12pm at the Knox County Health Department.
 
 
During this session we will provide you with a toolkit to help you organize your group, suggestions about resources in the area, and answer any questions you may have.  A boxed lunch will be provided to all leaders who attend.  If you are unable to attend the session but would like the information please contact me, Maureen Carlomagno, to set up a separate time to meet.
