I think this would be a great idea -
KPD TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY
The Knoxville Police Department is currently accepting applications for the Citizens Police Academy, a 12-week program meeting on Thursday evenings.
The program will cover a wide range of topics, including the various capabilities and functions of the KPD. Meetings will be from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings. Applications for the next class are due by mid-March; the program should begin at the end of March. In order to attend the program, applicants must be 18 or over, live or work within the City of Knoxville, undergo a background investigation including a criminal history check, and submit a completed application.
The Citizens Police Academy was created to inform community leaders and interested citizens about police practices and service delivery. Graduates of the program will have an understanding of how the KPD is organized and of the functions of each unit, as well as the knowledge and ability to organize neighborhood watch groups and other crime prevention initiatives. They will be able to spread this information to their neighborhoods, building citizen involvement and lasting partnerships between the KPD and the community.
For more information or to request an application, call the Citizens Police Academy Coordinator at 215-1308 or go to www.cityofknoxville.org/kpd/cpa.asp.
