The Metro Solicitor Permit is a plastic card much like our Kentucky drivers; license. According to the LMPD officer who talked with me extensively last year during the rash of complaints about persistent, insistent solicitations in our neighborhood, The permit is required by Metro ordinance to go door to door soliciting anything (survey, canvass, making estimates, offering products). Any company or organization going door to door without the permit is breaking the law.
I received 3 calls today from residents complaining about door-to-door solicitors without the required Metro permit. One resident stated that were filing a Better Business Bureau complaint because one of the solicitors ignored their No Solicitation sign and knocked on their door. The company involved has been contacted and apprised of the complaints.
Honest people trying to make a living are obviously honest. Abiding by the law and getting the required permit is just good business. Can a business that is flaunting the permit law be trusted? They can claim all they want to that they are just conducting a canvass; bottom line is that they are trying to find customers for their gutters and solar systems.
Just abide by the law and get a permit and all is well.
