The police department can only do so much to prevent crime in our city and communities. Because of the many difference freedoms we enjoy as citizens, the police department is restricted from taking action until a crime has been committed. In other words they are a reactionary force Vs being an effective proactive force. The proactive force exists with you and me, the average citizen. In order for the system that we have developed over many years to work to protect you and your family, we have to become interactive with our police department and other government operations. It is easy for us to complain about how the police department or other government organizations are not doing their jobs, but how often have we sat down with a policeman to get his or her viewpoint. How often have we attempted to explain to our kids that police officers are hired by us, they work for us, and can be removed by us if they are not doing their job?
The truth of the matter is our society has a small percent of individuals that has little or no respect for others or the law. When they break the law we want them punished for their crimes. We want our police department and justice system to respond by capturing and punishing the individual. However, no matter how much we want the system to do it all, it can not and will not. The system needs you to work effectively. If you see something that you know is not right, or you suspect a crime is taking place, don?’t wait for the police department to do it all. Make the call! With your help the likelihood of removing another criminal from our streets just went up.
