We in Valley Village, and everyone else in Los Angeles, need e-government and e-democracy more than ever.
Living as we do in a city of almost four million people, it's hard to get quality attention from the people who work for the City trying to deliver the services we need, deserve, and pay for with our taxes.
Using the Internet, computers, smart cards, and digital certificates to enable us to do official business with the City from our homes, offices, libraries, schools, and kiosks will make our lives easier and the cost to the City of delivering these services (paid for by our taxes) lower.
By providing e-government systems for each neighborhood, services and information can be provided in a fine-grained way. By linking the neighborhoods over the Net, citywide issues can be more effectively addressed.
We owe it to ourselves to contact our elected officials and tell them we want our money spent on state-of-the-art e-government and e-democracy systems, so that less of our tax money will need to be spent overall and so we can get better services delivered to us faster and more conveniently.
