Lloyd Clark brought up the issue of power outages based on community input he has received at the March 3, 2009 BCA meeting. In a recent Dispatch Article, the Berwick Community ranked #8 out of 15 in terms of the worst power outages in Franklin County. As a result, Mr. Clark sent a letter to Mary Flint, AEP Community Affairs and Faith Pointer requesting factual information for selected areas pertaining to the causes, frequency, duration, current policies and procedures to resolve power outages, and if there are any plans to upgrade the electric system. In many cases, residents have remained without power for several days. This has an adverse effect on the health, welfare and quality of life in particular for our most senior residents.
Mr. Clark also extended an invitation for an AEP Representative to speak at the next BCA Civic Association meeting to be held April 7, 2009 at the Lower level of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
I would encourage residents to also send complaints regarding electric issues to: Office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel.
The Office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel (OCC), the residential utility consumer advocate, represents the interests of 4.5 million households in proceedings before state and federal regulators and in the courts. The state agency also educates consumers about electric, natural gas, telephone and water issues and resolves complaints from individuals. To receive utility information, brochures, schedule a presentation or file a utility complaint, residential consumers may call 1-877-PICKOCC (1-877-742-5622) toll free in Ohio or visit the OCC Web site at www.pickocc.org.
