My husband and I recently purchased a home in Berwick at the corner of Millerdale and Dover. We are happy with the home and its location in spite of the fact it is directly behind the McDonald's and Walgreen's stores. I often find myself picking up McDonald's garbage from the yard, expected that.
What I did NOT expect is the surprisingly large number of our Berwick neighbors cutting across our front yard, trespassing very close to the house, to shorten their walk to Walgreen's! Aside from the security issues involved there is the wanton violation of our privacy: it is very disconcerting to be sitting in the living room and look out the window to see strangers, sometimes groups of strangers, walking by the windows so close to the house! At times I have rounded the corner of our home to come face-to-face with a trespasser coming from the opposite direction and nearly jump out of my skin!
It is rarely children or teenagers who do this; the people I have seen trespassing on our property are adults--who ought to know better! When politely asked not to trespass on private property again certain ones have responded belligerantly and rudely. How would they feel if we helped ourselves to the use of their yards and violated their privacy the same way?
I would appreciate any ideas and suggestions on how to solve this problem.
