DO NOT give out any information to any stranger that comes to your door !!

There has been reported that some people are working the area acting like they are affiliated with CANA or taking a survey or offering new home alarm sales.

ITS A SCAM,  TAKE THEIR PICTURE OR A DESCRIPTION AND CALL THE POLICE.

DO NOT TELL ANYONE "YES OR NO" IF YOU HAVE A HOUSE ALARM !!

This is directed to one of my neighbors who I wont identify by street or name.

YEAH,  you waited till Tuesday morning to put it all on the street - but we know you got a new wide screen TV and a new computer....we ALL saw the boxes.

DONT ADVERTISE YOUR NEW STUFF TO THE WORLD !!

TEAR YOUR BOXES DOWN !!!

Just make sure you don't through the baby out with the bathwater...when I moved into the neighborhood, CANA came by with the newsletters...and they were legit.

When the census came to town, they had proper identification and a means to check up on them before answering questions.   They were legit.

I bought an alarm this week, and I found them very competent, straightforward and legitimate--and offering a good product for a good price.  Before I gave them *any* information I got their ID and a phone number to check up on them.  They were legit.

It pays to be cautious, it pays to be polite, and it pays to trust your instincts.  Not everyone who comes to the door is out to get you.

I am glad you had a good experience.  Personally in today's tech world I dont see a reason for any "so called" company to try to sell their products door to door.

My post was only to let people be aware that giving out any personal information to a total stranger that shows up on your front porch is not a good idea.

Door to Door sales for products related to the physical home still work for some reason...I've been visited by ADT, Brinks, and APX for a security alarm.  I've also been visited by every major lawn sprayer and even a couple of pest control companies.  That's not counting girl scouts, and people wanting to mow my yard.  It has to work or the companies wouldn't keep spending money to do it.

I'm guessing they are looking for impulse buyers?  I got the alarm only because I was already in the market for one and these guys had the best offer.  I was able to pull out the written estimates I received from the other alarm companies and to a comparison with the guy there.

They also did not come into the house or get any information beyond my first name until I could verify who they were and that the company they were with was legit.

Cautious is a good thing and I highly endorse it :)
