During these hard times, people are looking for ways to stretch out each dollar budgeted for summer entertainment. More and more you hear about vacations that have sadly become ?‘staycations?’. Lucky for central Ohioans, those staycations don?’t have to be a bore. The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) has scheduled free activities throughout the entire month of June as part of Riverfest On Tour!
To kick-off the month long celebration of water, MORPC will host a full evening of excitement at COSI Family Friday Night and WaterFire on Friday, May 29, 2009 from 5-10:30 PM. COSI attendees will be invited into the Extreme Screen Theatre for FREE popcorn, trivia games, prizes and a showing of Grand Canyon Adventure: Rivers at Risk.
Throughout the month-long celebration, free activities will include canoe, kayak and pontoon boat rides, kite flying over the Dawes Arboretum wetlands, fishing with Metro Parks and more. ?“Each activity is designed to get people acquainted with their natural resources. We want to show them that, yes, the environment is fun, important and worth their effort to protect?” stated Leslie Strader, Outreach Specialist for MORPC.
The details of Riverfest On Tour! activities are posted on a dedicated website, www.riverfestcolumbus.org. Free activities are available to the community as a result of generous sponsorships from Outdoor Source, AEP Ohio, the City of Columbus Department of Public Utilities, Franklin County and Metro Parks.
