I just read in the Neighborhood Section of the Wednesday, August 15th Courier Journal that The Bon Aire Neighborhood Association has received $33,000 in funds earmarked for beautificaton of our neighborhood from the Louisville Metro Council, thanks to Councilman Brent Ackerson!. I read that the Association has chosen to appropriate $8,900 to to a mural to be painted on the Watterson Expessway underpass. Other projects being considered are banners, a "signature" bus stop and creation of bike lanes. Are you kidding me?!?!?! What a waste of desperately needed funds to clean up a neighborhood, that has far too many eyesores! Why not solicit neighborhood businesses to make a commitment to spruce up and maintain their properties and then alot each who are interested in participating a percentage (with a defined limit) of the the funds they spend for improvements such as fresh paint, new shrubs, removal of dead landscaping and weeds, flowers, improved lighting, signage.etc. I would also like to see our Association solicit from the City of Louisville tax funds for regular and timely mowing of city easements and street sweeping, particularly along Bardstown Road. When we get the "Basics" covered that improve the overall image of our neighborhood, than we can think about the projects currently being discussed and conisdered. When and where is the next Neighborhood Association Meeting. I'd love to attend!
