Town of Braintree

two things among many

Posted in: Braintree
1.concerning the hiring of tom Reynolds
by the town for a job at water and sewer that he has no credentials for:

-you are setting a precedence that the town will allow incompetence and therefore any candidate in the future
to apply for any position and will feel confident that as long as enough people vouch for them they're in. no point to a job description. oh,by the way what happens when John McMahon
leaves or is terminated from his position prior to Toms Whalen and Reynolds being accredited? there is a history here of directors leaving before their term is up one way or another.does this put the town in a bind either financially or legally?
how about any state mandate regarding
compliance by town officials that requires a engineers' license?
whomever allowed this breach of ethics
at town hall has put the community in
peril and should be considered a fraud.
(from now on water and sewer can be
referred to as the three headed monster
or the john and tom tom club)

2.what ever became of the executive secretary? will this issue ever be resolved?is she still pursuing other
job opportunities on the towns dime?
at 104,000/year salary i believe she should be giving the town her undivided
attention regardless of any other considerations.she could always resign
to chase the money.that's never stopped anyone in the past.

the guys over at the selectmen office
sure have their job cut out for them.
giving away the money no one has to those whom they think deserve it because its fair and equitable.if the alloted town revenue is insufficient to support the present budget how could
anyone support raises or overrides? to fund salary increases? for anyone?what do you guys do at home?honey,we are a little short this month on our nut, could you pick up some extra money? nah-but i have an idea-let's go buy a NEW CAR!on credit.we'll mortgage
our future but everyone will think we're IT.the bomb.the cats' arse so to speak.

Sense, too bad the teachers and their union have none, only an override mentality and an abundance of pure greed.

They feel as a group that they deserve all they can squeeze out of the town and feel no remorse at all for taxpayers lot. As some would ?”why should we?”!

Some of them actually think the town is rolling in dough and they should have most of it. We have seen the United Nations mentality, they think we are taxed too little, all who have their hands out will feel that way.

The spiral of greed needs to end very soon, limit their salaries with a cap, say
no to this endless taxation and the more, more madness, if they want more they should try the private sector and get off of the dole.

Have some of the selectmen and other town?’s elected no ears, does the school committee
have no understanding of the English language? We the people have said in the past ?“no Override?” ,the teachers and town employee?’s, compensation in adequate, they must feel if nagged often enough we cave in like the parents of teen age kids.

The power a town dept like the schools has over town monies is beyond belief! They have, in the past whined for more money for some purpose and ,when it is given, have given it as more pay to the teachers,85% of all school money will continue to flow into their pockets, its all about
us, us, the poor children indeed, have they, the greedy ones, no decency?

State, feds threaten to take cash from Quincy if mayor's pick is hired; Officials say he isn't qualified for housing job

By CHRISTOPHER WALKER
The Patriot Ledger 1/13/05

QUINCY - State and federal officials are threatening to withhold money from the embattled Quincy Housing Authority if it hires a candidate favored by Mayor William Phelan as the agency's executive director.

Phelan has pushed for the housing authority to hire Assistant City Solicitor Jay MacRitchie for the long-vacant executive director post. But MacRitchie has no housing background, one of the job's requirements, and members of the housing authority changed the qualifications for him by eliminating the housing experience mandate.

In strongly worded letters on the eve of interviews with finalists, the state and federal housing departments said the political pressure has tainted the process and no state money could be used to pay a candidate who did not meet minimal qualifications.

?‘?‘We have watched as the Board of Commissioners have voted to ignore minimum qualifications ... in order to include a candidate in the interview process who does not meet the minimum qualifications,'' Robert P. Cwieka regional acting director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, wrote to the housing authority. ?‘?‘It is our understanding the addition of this candidate to the interview roster has led to the perception that the selection process will not be based on the candidate's qualifications and, consequently, some qualified candidates have withdrawn from consideration.''

The housing authority's board of commissioners was set yesterday to interview six finalists but postponed any action until officials could respond to the critical letters from HUD, which provides $13.2 million a year for federal programs, and the state Department of Housing and Community Development.

In their letter, state officials said they ?‘?‘expected'' the authority to reopen the search process for the job.

State Associate Director for Public Housing and Rental Assistance Marc Slotnick stated in the letter that the Quincy Housing Authority is in such disarray that it needed to hire someone ?‘?‘that far exceeds the minimum qualifications'' for the job, including several years of experience in public housing administration.

Slotnick stated that if the authority's board picked a candidate who didn't meet minimum job requirements the state agency would withhold its share of salary payments to the new executive director and that HUD would not pick up the full tab. Half the approximate $100,000 salary is paid with state funds, half with federal money.

How do we get the state

and federal government interested in our problem with Mr. Reynolds.

This job is nothing but a reward for Reynold's past loyalties and has nothing to do with knowing anything about the job.

We had a board of Selectmen several years back who thought they could do anything they wanted. I think this board feels the same. The voters busted up that bunch and may have to do it again with this board.
