If only you knew the contract

with the school union wasn't approved by town meeting but was implemented,
Would you be as indignant? How does the town control spending by the largest tax
burden we have in town, it doesn?’t. This system of government if fatally flawed
as to control of spending and forming long term contractual agreements with town
resources.

We must make changesin the way we operate or all is los, If a business
operated in this way with one department running wild and writing their own
paychecks it wouldn?’t last long.

If the company operated without a business plan and one department chose its
own direction without informing the companies board all would be lost.
Enough you get the idea.

I maybe wrong,

but doesn't town meeting vote on the funding of all the budgets? Every year there are numerous town meeting seats open. Instead of complaining here, why not run for a seat, and vote no when all the budgets come up for a vote. That way you send a message. Sitting in front of your computer or at home watching the meetings on tv, won't get the job done.

member,has one, in your experience, ever been voted,the union contract, by town meeting.

What control has town meeting over the school's teachers writing their own raise increase package into the union contract,aproving it and demanding the town to fund it.When Fincom presents the schools demands to TM what kind
of information is in the info packs,do you get the terms of the union
contracts?

since proposition 2 1/2 was passed, the school department has complete control over how it spends its budget.The contract for the teachers is NOT subject to funding as the rest of the town union contracts are.

TM has no control over what the schools demand and Fincom recomends and schools receive.They demand,we pay.

Here's How it Works

Towm meeting votes on the amount of the school budget in its entirety. We can't vote on specifics in the budget, such as, let's delete the $$ for this teacher or that window replacement. But, we CAN vote to change the bottom line and that's a control that TM has always had with the school budget. If you don't like how much the town spends on schools, then you can absolutely debate it at town meeting. The school department asks for funding and explains what it's for, just like all other town departments. If you don't like it, then vote to amend the amount.
