(SOUNDS LIKE BRAIN WASHING TO ME)

Presidential candidate John Kerry and his wife, Teresa, organized a group 11 years ago with an agenda to use public schools at all levels to ''leverage change'' throughout U.S. society by instigating ''a complete shift in thinking, values and action'' among America's youth.

Second Nature, run by Anthony Cortese, an adviser to Kerry who has campaigned for him this year, promotes the notion of ''Education for Sustainability'' in schools across the country ?– from kindergarten through the universities.

Cortese, president of the organization that is financed principally by Teresa Heinz Kerry's foundations, made clear the breadth of the group's agenda when he said: ''And humans are guided by a whole set of beliefs and values, and those come from culture, from religion, from social, economic, and political structure. We need to change all of those.''

Holly Swanson, a critic of the radical environmental movement and author of ''Set Up & Sold Out,'' said the beliefs Second Nature is advocating parallel those of the international Green parties.

''It's time to question the assumption that any idea that has to do with the environment is automatically a good idea,'' she said. ''Education for Sustainability is a prime example. Education for Sustainability is the vehicle to slip Green beliefs into the curriculum and slide the political goals right past students, teachers, parents, politicians and the American people. Second Nature' radical goals are buried beneath environmental rhetoric such as: 'Second Nature ?… is dedicated to making environmentally just and sustainable action central to learning and practice of education at all levels.'''

Lamb says the arbiters of sustainability have already determined air conditioning, convenience foods, single-family housing and cars have to go. ''Equity,'' he says, ''means forcing those who produce an income to provide for those who do not.'' And ''Environmental protection,'' he says, ''means constraining individual freedom to accommodate 'management' to prevent the impending impoverishment of the planet.''

Cortese doesn't limit himself to environmental activism. A week after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Cortese was one of the celebrity signers of a petition denouncing any future military action in response. He was joined by Harry Belafonte, Danny Glover, Mike Farrell, Bonnie Raitt, Marcus Raskin pf the Marxist Institute for Policy Studies. David Salniker, executive director of the Tides Center, a foundation supported by Teresa Heinz Kerry, Martin Sheen and Gloria Steinem.

Second Nature was 1993 by Cortese, Kerry and his wife in 1993 by Cortese, Kerry and his wife, according to the organization's website.

Foreign meddling unites American

When Ralph Nader mentions that 116 Italian members of parliament wrote to him asking him to withdraw his candidacy, he does so with a scornful laugh.

When The Guardian newspaper had the idea of encouraging its British readers to write to Ohio voters to encourage them to defeat President George W. Bush, ?“Operation Clark County?” as it was called was submerged in a backlash of hostile messages from across the Atlantic.

?“Real Americans aren't interested in your pansy-ass, tea-sipping opinions,?” came one of many animated responses. ?“If you want to save the world, begin with your own worthless corner of it.?”
Another read: ?“We don't need weenie-spined Limeys meddling in our presidential election.?”

Overseas visitors to the Bush-Cheney campaign website in the past 10 days have been greeted with a simple message: You are not authorised to view this page. The 2004 election may have been, above all, about American foreign policy.

Many commentators outside the US have said that the outcome tomorrow is a matter of concern for the entire world. But foreigners are mistaken if they think they have any say in the proceedings.?“Butt Out?” was the New York Daily News' response to Osama bin Laden's Act V entrance in the campaign at the weekend.

In a lengthier piece of reporting, The New York Times yesterday suggested voters in the battleground states were giving the al-Qaeda leader equally short shrift. The meaning of Mr bin Laden's intervention has been the subject of much debate.

WHY POLICE OFFICERS BACK W

WHY POLICE OFFICERS BACK W

IN the face of one of the most bitter presidential races this country has ever seen, a first-ever event occurred in the nearly 90-year history of the National Fraternal Order of Police, the largest law-enforcement labor union in the United States, when the entire organization unanimously supported the endorsement of President George W. Bush. That endorsement represents over 318,000 members and their families. (I was privileged to have our National Trustee Charles Caputo represent the New York State FOP at this meeting and cast our vote. )
The obvious question is: Why the FOP has displayed such unity in its unwavering support of the president? Put simply, it is because under this president, promises made are promises kept. However, the reasons are many, easy to understand and have far-reaching benefits to every citizen in this country.

First and foremost, the Bush administration has repeatedly made good on its commitment to law enforcement. Through key legislation and budget appropriations, our nation's police officers are being provided the necessary tools and support so vital to performing in exemplary fashion day in and day out, in every city, town and village in the United States.

Police officers are the very first line of defense in any crisis situation. But post-9/11, police officers have a new enemy to face with bravery and valor: terrorism. So, in addition to often being first on the scene of a health emergency, car accident or fire, police officers now must contend with the ever-present danger of a terrorist attack anytime, anywhere.
President Bush completely understands this scenario, and has responded by providing federal funds for important aspects of emergency management such as Interoperable Communication and Emergency Operations Centers.
Under his leadership, the administration has rolled up its sleeves and worked hard to change the laws to better protect America. In just four short years, they've enacted some of the most beneficial changes to American law enforcement in the past five decades.
One key piece of legislation, the ''Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act,'' allows off-duty and retired law officers to remain armed. That puts more enforcement professionals on the street to act in a time of crisis. Under the previous administration, this legislation sat stagnant in Congress. President Bush identified it as an important law for homeland security, and did everything in his power to make it a reality.
President Bush also recognizes the role and importance of law-enforcement families. He has worked with the FOP on countless issues affecting those of us who have lost a loved one in the line of duty and has helped the FOP pass the most significant expansion of the federal public-safety officer's survivors-benefit program in a generation.
Police officers have the opportunity to be heroes any day they go to work. Many times, that tag of ''hero'' costs the ultimate price, as we saw with so many the day America was attacked. Yet law-enforcement professionals do not do their jobs for accolades or recognition. They do it instinctively, without consideration for their own safety. President Bush recognizes that trait in the police officers across the country. He has shown his appreciation by continually supporting the issues that affect the lives of each police officer their families, and that is why we have responded in kind, with one common voice, to support President Bush on Election Day.
