What's up with that? I read all of this and nobody said ''ALL'' teachers make $50,000 learn how to read. The question was ''Average after 5 years'' answer ''$50,000 and SH*T cost more if you spend more you wake up! Two salaried teachers can hardly get approved for a loan for a house! Wake up. How do you know the author doesn't work and she/he isn't the bread winner? I AM trying to survive on two salaries and i still want quality properly paid teachers/fire/police/and town workers just the way companies pay their good quality employees. Step up to the plate offered and talk to a few teachers young and old see what they have to say. Listen to the facts from more than one point of view don't be so narrow minded we do have one of the lowest tax rates around don't we?

Here is some absolutely accurate info for all of you. And these are facts
Average masters degree (which is required to teach) cost $10,000 and means weekends and nights away from family.
PTO nights, report card meetings, Back to School nights, parent meetings, science fairs all are required but not paid. Again time away from family
By Contract: work 182 days but go in three weeks before school to set up classrooms and review student files and continue working on the ever changing lesson plans.
Masters pay IS NOT $374.67/ a day rather on average $174/before taxes, insurance, retirement plans just like everyone else!
Reimbursement for classes is tops $400 a year
As far as the new plan! teachers pay for that not the taxpayers they pay 11% of their pay every week into that if that is the plan they chose and at that they only get 80% of their own money back if they worked at least 30 years. The taxpayers have nothing to do with that so why is that upsetting everyone?
The contract is not over 100 pages
Personal days- they have to give a reason for them to get paid and it has to be approved is that personal? Do you have to do that at your job?
Also have you ever thought of restrictions being that teachers are not allowed to go out of the building for lunch? they are not allowed to go to their childrens school plays, or concerts or anything during the work day. Most of other people can and do.
It costs about $1200 a month for one childs daycare- teachers pay that too!
Teachers pay taxes too! Teachers serve their country too! Who do you think provides the supplies your children use every day? Not the school thats for sure. Teachers also stand outside every day after their ''contracted'' time to ensure your children get home safely how warm are you in 9 degree weather in your office? To the person who spoke of Gamma learn how to spell! Do you really think $40.00 per week for a single person with only 50% coverage medical and $50.00 a month dental with only 33% coverage is fantastic benefits and don't even talk about the family plan Have you ever had to pay for a root canal out of pocket? Well they do!
