Actually George Bush's victory had more to do with hope and growth
IN THE past fortnight, the Democrats have come up with lots of comfort-food explanations of George Bush's victory?—from the idea that the rascal stole the election for a second time (there were a mere 3.3m votes in it, after all) to the notion that he rode into Washington, DC, at the head of an army of hooded fundamentalists. But perhaps the most dangerous of all these myths is the idea that Mr Bush terrified the voters into re-electing him. He divided the country along ?“fault lines of fear?”, according to Maureen Dowd in the New York Times; he relied on ?“fear of and hatred for modernity?”, added Garry Wills, polymath and devout Catholic. Sooner or later every Democrat starts saying that the president used terrorism to partisan advantage.

The prize for the most unintentionally humorous reason given by a liberal for why President Bush defeated John Kerry?—in a contest with many entries?—has to go to Alan Woods, an Ohio State drama professor quoted in the Chicago Tribune: ''We are now reaping, in election results, the consequences of the colossal reductions in art education.''
Mr. Woods was trying to figure out why Americans reelected the president even though the nation's artists told them not to.
Bruce Springsteen organized his fellow rock stars into the Vote for Change tour, with John Mellencamp, the Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, R.E.M, the Dixie Chicks, James Taylor, and others staging concerts to elect Mr. Kerry. Rapper Eminem put out an anti-Bush video. P. Diddy put out ''Vote or Die'' T-shirts and got multitudes of rap fans to register to vote, and not for Mr. Bush.
Hollywood did its part to instruct the masses, Fahrenheit 9/11 being only one of the anti-Bush movies. Documentaries almost never make it into mainstream movie theaters, but just before the election the local multiplex was playing fare like Bush's Brain (on the president's sinister Svengali, Karl Rove), The Hunting of the President (on the vast right-wing conspiracy that tried to overthrow Bill Clinton), Outfoxed (unveiling the shocking secret that Fox News is conservative), and Going Up River (about the thrilling exploits of John Kerry).
Theatrical releases too were designed to inform the American public about the issues. The Day After Tomorrow hyped global warming and the supposed consequence of the current administration's failure to sign the Kyoto treaty. The Manchurian Candidate remade the classic about a Communist attempt to take over the country into a conspiracy theory about big business controlling the political process so it can profit from a war in Iraq. Silver City made a parody of President Bush the villain in a murder mystery.
The more serious arts establishment also mobilized to defeat President Bush. The drama scene featured The Bushie Plays and W! as well as anti-Bush ridicule written into the Broadway hits Avenue Q and Hairspray. Museums and art exhibits also did their part. Celebrities campaigned, patrons gave money to the Democrats and their 527 funds, and many arts professionals did mundane tasks such as work on the get-out-the-vote effort for Mr. Kerry.
And all to no avail! What is wrong with this country, that it doesn't listen to its artists? Mr. Woods has concluded that America just does not understand art, and that's what we get for cutting back on art education.
To be sure, there were also conservative artists glad that President Bush was reelected, not all of whom were in the field of country music. But the question remains: Aren't the arts, for good or for bad, influential? How is it that all of these artists had so little impact on the country whose culture they supposedly embody?

black ''racial motivated attacks''
A coalition of black clergy Friday denounced recent ''racial motivated attacks'' by three editorial cartoonists, the Washington Post and the New York Times upon National Security Adviser Dr. Condoleezza Rice, who was recently nominated by President Bush to serve as the next secretary of state.The Faith Based Leadership Council, a group of over 200 black clergy and members of the faith-based community, said cartoonists Jeff Danzinger, Pat Oliphant, Garry Trudeau, the Post and the Times have used racial stereotypes ''to conduct their personal character assassination of'' Rice's integrity because she chose to serve the Bush administration. ''These cartoonists believe that the liberal views of the Washington Post and New York Times somehow provides cover for them to engage in racist attacks upon Dr. Rice and other minority in the Bush Administration,'' said Oliver N.E. Kellman, Jr., executive director of the FBLC, in a statement.''Mr. Danzinger's, Mr. Oliphant's and Mr. Trudeau's racist depictions of Dr. Rice are of the most twisted Ku Kluz Klan/Skinhead Mindset.
I am astonished that the NAACP, Rainbow-Push and other traditional civil rights groups did not denounce this type of trash from the very first day it was reported,'' Kellman said in a statement.-----------being black isn?’t enough, must be liberal!
''Instead, they are silent witnesses to this racially motivated character assassination because of Dr. Rice's politics,'' he added. ''The FBIC believes in the advancement of all Americans, no matter their political affiliation, gender or ethnic background.
''Dr. Rice has been singled out for persecution by a handful of bigoted liberals who have characterized her as a steppin and fetchin sambo,'' said Kellman, adding that he believes ''they feel threatened and disturbed by the fact that Dr. Rice will soon be the most powerful Black woman in the United States as Secretary of State.''
The FBLC is calling on the cartoonists and both papers to publicly apologize to Rice. ''White liberals in the media have come to feel that they can openly attack any Black conservative that chooses to serve the nation,'' the group said.
Meanwhile, John ''Sly'' Sylvester, a white radio talk show host in Madison, Wisc., Friday defended comments he made calling Rice an ''Aunt Jemima,'' saying he did it to indicate her subservient role in the Bush administration.Sylvester said the Bush administration is using Rice for the ''illusion of inclusion,'' and he expressed the opinion that Rice isn't up to the job of secretary of state, wire reports said.According to the Associated Press, Sylvester said he will ''apologize to Aunt Jemima'' on Friday's show by giving away pancake mix and syrup.
The Madison branch of the NAACP had no immediate comment on Sylvester's remarks.''To hear the leftists tell it, conservative blacks have become the new 'trash class' of American society,'' said Michael King, a member of Project 21, a black conservative group. King condemned the cartoonists' depictions of Rice as well as Sylvester's comments about Rice and Powell.''And with the continued cricket-filled silence from the professional civil rights crowd, the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons give tacit permission and acceptance of such language and tactics,'' King said.''The recent racist attacks and mimicry of Condoleezza Rice are infuriating and despicable. Even more insufferable is the deafening silence of the elite liberals,'' Project 21 member Mychal Massie.''I believe their silence is proof positive of their personal racist attitudes. Obviously condemning racist attacks against a man and woman who are conservative and black is not a worthy undertaking for them,'' Massie said..-----------being black isn?’t enough, you must be a liberal!

latest liberal media feeding fre
Watching the latest liberal media feeding frenzy over a Marine shooting an allegedly wounded and unarmed terrorist who was no threat brought back memories of the 1960s. I was a personal witness to the origins of the modern ''hate and blame America first'' movement.
I spent the entire decade of the 1960s and most of the 1970s constantly engaged with students who regurgitated the communist philosophy their professors were teaching them in the leading universities of our country. Not all professors, of course, were doing this, but many of the most prominent and vocal were.
The ''in thing'' ?– or as we would say today, the politically correct thing ?– was to hate America and blame it for most of the ills of our world. ''Scholars'' vigorously rewrote American history so that all honor, religion and pride was expunged from it. The Vietnam War gave them a great proving ground to sharpen their techniques of ''blaming America.'' As a result, American soldiers returned from grueling tours of duty only to be spit upon by these activist students.
Some of the brightest and best students were turned into dedicated activists who planned careers in strategic places of influence to spread this communist-inspired perception of America. Many went into journalism and the media. Some became university professors and teachers. Others went into politics ?– mostly becoming influential career bureaucrats in strategic branches of our government.
Now we are witnessing the results of these dedicated professors, who used their college classes as a pulpit to convert their students to a communist view of America. The fact that CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, et. al, are all slanted toward radical liberal thinking didn't accidentally happen. It is the compounded results of the quantum shift toward the left in the thinking of the 1960s. I say compounded because these original disciples of the 1960s produced more converts that are more radical than they were.
There are war correspondents in Iraq who look for any incident that they can turn against our American soldiers and use to discredit the Bush administration's policies in Iraq.
Very little coverage is given of the atrocities that daily are brought against our soldiers. Not much is made of the beheadings and murders of defenseless Allied personnel ?– unless, of course, there is a way to turn it into somehow being America's fault.
In this latest incident, the action of one Marine who was in the midst of a violent house-to-house firefight has been blown into an international event. Never mind that the terrorist who was killed was using the refuge of a Mosque to fire upon the Marine and his comrades. Never mind that many of the wounded terrorist set off grenades to kill those who came to give them aid. Never mind that many terrorists played dead only to shoot soldiers in the back. But none of the atmosphere of this dirty war with the brutal barbarism of the Muslim terrorists is felt in the rarefied atmosphere of the media newsrooms.
These liberal news people are doing more to inflame the hatred of the Muslim world against America than any other factor.
One thing is certain: Had these people reported the invasion of Europe during World War II in this way, we would all be speaking German now.
I do hope that Americans will respond with outrage to this slander of one of our brave Marines. These brave young men face dangers daily that would send most Americans into a nervous breakdown. Let's not reward their sacrifice and bravery with an indictment for being a ''war criminal.''
