Book Smart And Experience
Like our military, why not, Mr. Cox, have promotions based on seniority as well as book smart. Time in rank plus ability to conjugate a verb would be helpful to people we lay heavier responsibilities and larger pay in the process, but you say ''it's always been that way''. That doesn't mean it is correct in this day and age of technology, academia, training as well as seniority. Wouldn't it be novel to expect that a change in the process be considered to ensure we are promoting the best talent we can get for our multi million dollar fire department? Just because that's the way it's always been is about as weak an excuse to maintain the status quo you can give.
