actually, quincy has lowered its tax rate as u stated, but the article also said that the assessments were increased. and the taxpayers were complaining about this.

Quincy Does, Braintree Can!

A $10,000,000 bond issue was funded in Quincy last year to afford upgrades to public open spaces, new fields, new synthetic turfed Veterans Stadium, new track elsewhere in the city, new open space acquisitions, state of art Adams Field developed,and more. Funded out of hotel/motel tax collected in Quincy annually. Quincy does, Braintree uses same (less percentage imposed) to cover budget costs in town. Different strokes for different folks.
Braintree's tax rate is lower than Quincy's (actually it's lowest on all of South Shore) but because of appraised valuations of residential property off the charts here in Braintree, taxes will modestly rise this coming year. If you are going to compare Quincy with Braintree, at leasst compare apples to apples of fact and steer clear of innuendo and misinformation. Their roads are being resurfaced no more rapidly than Braintree's; however the one huge difference in Quincy v. Braintree is that Braintree is resurfacing, for the most part, neighborhood roadways while Quincy is concentrating first on main roadways before concentrating on neighborhood roadways. Difference in philosophy from their city to our town!

Braintree can't

Braintree's tax RATE is LOW. It's assessment is HIGH. Before you go patting yourself on the back, check it out. In reference to neighborhood paving, Who lives on West Street by the Ridge? I can't believe the residents at Blue Hill's cemetary are that excited. We should be resurfacing roads that are traveled on. We also should be limiting the designer sidewalks some of our fellow residents are inheriting. They have to cost a pretty penny.

what are you referring to?if you are speaking of the state mandated upgrades
to newly constructed roads and sidewalks,talk to the engineering,highway departments and our
state representative.they will answer your questions,maybe even the pointed ones about who's road is replaced first
and why.i think everyone in town would
love to hear about the thought process
used.by the way,if trucks making runs for business owners are adding to their
disrepair maybe someone should take this into consideration next time the virtues of allowing New businesses entry into Braintree.
