I DON'T KNOW WHO PAID FOR HIS DEVON WOOD CONDO, BUT I DO KNOW THAT HE TOLD THE LEDGER THAT HE IS A TOWN MEETING MEMBER FROM 10. HOW CAN THAT BE IF HE NOW LIVES IN PCT 11?

I've Paid My Dues

I was a town official for over twenty years for your information. I've been there and done that with the agency I worked. Bet you can't say the same. As far as hands in anyone's pockets, I'm outraged at the condition of Braintree's streets and the old fart attitudes of residents that the money is there to fix them, we just have to close down have the town to do so. Until you imbeciles start by being factual in the specific areas you want to trim the budget (spending), then I'm inclined to pay the same amount I currently am paying to haul away my one bag of trash each week at my curb to get some roads repaired, some schools upgraded and some police communicators into the hands of our police officers - all for what I am currently paying to haul away my bags of trash. Same money, spent differently. So, take your hands out of your back pockets and be more constructive in how you oppose fixing what's broken in this town. Until I start reading some substantive suggestions, I'll decide for myself how I'll spend my $150 bucks a year.

We have an abundance of empty suits and Matt Sisk is near the top of the ticket! He wouldn't know about paying taxes any more than doing a fine job for Dan Quirk as one of his accountants. Hmm, that is a marriage made of two bozos in town.

Sometimes I wonder if I live in a town filled with idiots. How is it that no where in these threads on the proposed override does anyone take on these two specific facts:

1). Say what you will about objecting to tax increases on principle; at the end of the day, we simply do not want any more money coming out of our pockets, right? And, most of us object to the trash fee, right? Well, an approved override would (a) eliminate the trash fee and (b) cost us less money than we're paying now. Why is it that no one in this town can intelligently refute this? Simple question: would you rather pay $140/$150 next year, or about $85? Hmmm...tough question. (And folks, answering this question by saying, ''We shouldn't be paying either...'' won't cut it; in a perfect world, maybe, but alas...)

2.) A lot of people say the tax burden should not be put on residents. Fair enough. But what about this fact: right now, with the trash fee, Braintree businesses (and there are loads of them, folks) pay nothing. If residents approve a debt exclusion, business would have to cough up money just as residents do. If you consider the trash fee to be another ''tax,'' and many of you apparently do, then why sit by while a significant segment of our town - and I'd argue, a segment that could afford more than an individual - gets a free ride on a ''tax'' the rest of us pay? Again, can someone INTELLIGENTLY tackle this question?

It's just so easy to say, ''I'm voting no on any override.'' So easy. Maybe that is our town's motto?
