Town of Braintree

Do the math

Posted in: Braintree
Let's see - Braintree lost two high-profile decisions that could have negative effects on our town.

1. Weymouth convinces the state to reject our truck ban policy.

2. Quincy approves Quirk's blasting project and overwhelmingly supports his enterprise at the shipyard.

Braintree loses out in both cases. Common denominator: Both communities have mayors. Yep, there's a big difference when there's one person in charge.

Go ahead government study, waste your time on manager/selectmen/town meeting plan. It will be dead on arrival.

If..

If I lived in either Quincy or Weymouth I would feel the same way. The Town of Braintree has been collecting taxes from The Citgo property long before I was born. We allowed them to move in many many years ago and we should not try to send the problem over to Weymouth.
As far as the shipyard property is concerned. I do not recall the Town of Braintree getting any permission from Quincy when blasting was done in areas in close proximity to Quincy.
Quirk did it anyway

If you saw the planning board meeting, Quirk said he did not need permission from the town to to blast, so he went ahead and did it. Quirks mouthpiece found a ''loophole''. If he honored the decision of the planning board he would have waited the 20 days to allow for an appeal. As far as Weymouth goes, they do not pay a dime for the maintenance of Rtes 53 and 18 (except for .6 of a mile)the state does. We get to pay every dime for the roads in East Braintree

Hello.....

If the blasting was done in Braintree... He (Quirk) needed a permit..I don't know about Quincy.. But if Quincy needed an application to blast.. I am sure they made Mr. Quirk aware..
Now as for roads.. Hey.. the trucks to Citgo.. are going through Braintree.. I live in Braintree and and I am as upset about it as you are.. But where do we get off telling Weymouth that we want to make it their problem.. It is our problem.. Hey.. shut down Citgo (if you can).. I am sure the fire department would be delighted..
