The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm.
These blocks within the Brandywine Village Civic Association were represented at the meeting:
100 Block W 18th Street
200 Block W 18th Street
1800 Block West Street
200 Block W 19th Street
Elected Officials present:
City Councilman Trippi Congo
City Officials:
Corporal Joe Miller, WPD
Officer Severance, WPD
Cpl Miller provided a Brandywine Village neighborhood update.
?• Mr. Lee Dahl of the 200 block of W 18th Street, is residing too close to Shortlidge Elementary School and was in violation convicted Sex Offender State of DE laws. In September 2008, he was given notice by the WPD that he must move farther away from the school by November 1, 2008. He negotiated the move date to December 1, 2008. However, Mr. Dahl did not move. To date, he is still spending at least half his time at his W 18th Street apartment. Dahl is in violation of the law. Residents are instructed to call the Police when Mr. Dahl is seen in the neighborhood.
?• Youth already in violation of the City?’s curfew ordinance have been caught by the WPD engaged in criminal activities (ie robbery). The WPD wants to actively enforce youth curfew.
The City?’s Youth Curfew Ordinance
Sunday thru Thursday 12 years & younger indoors by 9pm
13 -18 years indoors by 10pm
Friday & Saturday 12 years & younger indoors by 10pm
13 -18 years indoors by 12midnight
?• Nuisance Properties?—the WPD will actively enforce nuisance laws. Residents should call 654-5151 to report nuisance activities. Please report the incidents as they occur. Please have the details as you report the incident, include ?“what happened?” a description of the individual(s) involved, the exact address, make and model of the vehicle, etc. The first and second legitimate nuisance calls are documented. The 3rd call of a nuisance activity will result in a ticket for the offending individual/property. Residents are encouraged to call if they witness loitering, open containers, drinking &/or drug use on or near school property, etc.
Residents identified some neighborhood hotspots that require extra attention:
?• 1600 Block of West Street ?– slovenly block, litter strewn, drinking, drug use, drug sales
?• 100 & 200 Blocks W 20th Street ?– Open-Air Drug Dealing
?• 19th & Market buy/sell prescription drugs near Wilm Senior Center and across street at bus stop
Residents also noted that more lights are needed:
?• Common areas
?• Residential alleyways where individuals may engage in nefarious activities
?• Shortlidge School parking areas; 18th St parking lots and parking areas on West Street. School activities occurring in the evening create a parking nightmare for residents on W 18th Street as visitors refuse to use school parking lots.
